Sustainability Advisory Council

The Sustainability Advisory Council (SAC) was created in 2010 by Mayor John Hickenlooper and continues today under Mayor Michael Hancock. Members of the SAC represent a broad and diverse leadership of Denver’s communities, businesses, and institutions. Stephen Shepard, our EVP, is the CO-Chair of the Building and Homes Sub-Committee.

Denver's Green Buildings Ordinance is one of many tools the city uses to reduce the environmental impact of new buildings and renovations. Read More

Energize Denver

Denver’s benchmarking ordinance requires owners of buildings over 25,000 square feet to annually benchmark the energy use. The City’s programs also engage tenants to improve energy efficiency of their spaces and provide resources to improve the efficiency of buildings. In 2022 building performance measurements were also adopted. Read More

the core of the Colorado Energy Office's vision is inclusive, striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and consumer energy costs by advancing clean energy, energy efficiency, and zero-emission vehicles to benefit all Coloradans. Inherent in this vision is the necessity to drive changes in energy production and use, the built environment, land use, and transportation systems in a way that reduces causes not only negative impacts from these systems but also counteracts racist and discriminatory policy by providing benefits to disproportionately impacted communities, people of color and underserved populations. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles are core to the clean and prosperous future we envision for Colorado, and we have much continuing work to meet our goals. Read More

C-PACE enables owners of eligible commercial and industrial buildings to finance up to 100% of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation eligible improvements. Financing is provided by private capital providers at competitive rates with repayment terms of up to 25 years. Building owners are empowered to modernize building energy infrastructure, lower energy costs, and increase building comfort and asset value – with no upfront costs while enjoying positive cash flow. C-PACE projects also advance public policy goals to create local jobs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase renewable energy deployment.
